China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) continues its preparations for an investment initiative in the deepwater drilling platform segment. According to a press release, the company is considering the construction of two new-generation deepwater semi-submersible drilling rigs.
New board decision
At the COSL board meeting, the proposal to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of two such rigs was reviewed and approved. This means that the project has officially moved to the next stage of development before potential execution.
It should be noted that the idea of conducting such a study had already been reviewed by the audit committee of the company, which also reviewed and approved the proposal for a feasibility study.
What is already known
The publicly available materials do not provide technical specifications of the new rigs or any other concrete parameters of the semi-submersibles themselves.
Preceding context
This current initiative logically follows an earlier management decision. At the end of June, the COSL board had already approved feasibility studies for:
- the construction of 59 offshore support vessels;
- the construction of four high-performance jackup class rigs.
Thus, this step continues the company’s previously established path of expanding its fleet and drilling infrastructure.
