IndianOil (Mauritius), a subsidiary of the state-owned energy company IndianOil, has started construction of a new bunkering fuel storage facility in Mare-Rouge, Mauritius. The project is seen as a step toward strengthening the country’s status as a regional bunkering hub.
Main parameters of the project
- Capacity of the new facility: 27 500 metric tonnes.
- Investment volume: USD 25 million.
- The project’s goal is to expand the bunkering capabilities of IndianOil (Mauritius) and support the development of fuel marine supply infrastructure in Mauritius.
- The foundation stone of the facility was laid by India’s minister of petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on August 21.
Target indicators and partnership agreements
The company said it plans to raise bunkering volumes to more than 400 TKL by 2029–2030.
The initiative is taking place against the backdrop of deepening energy partnership between Mauritius and India through:
- Memorandum of Understanding in the oil and gas sector to expand cooperation in petroleum product supply.
- Sales Purchase Agreement (SPA) between Mauritius State Trading Corporation (STC) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), aimed at ensuring resilience and security of white petroleum product supplies.
Both agreements were signed in Port Louis in the presence of Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and other officials.
According to Ramgoolam, the agreements confirm the long-standing partnership between the two countries and highlight the closeness of their relations, as well as the contribution of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
