On September 29, 2025, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a serious incident: a cargo ship flying the Dutch flag was attacked off the coast of Yemen.
The vessel was attacked 128 nautical miles southeast of the port of Aden in the Gulf of Aden. According to the UKMTO report, the crew noticed a splash and smoke behind the ship, after which the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile and caught fire. Information about casualties and the extent of the damage has not yet been disclosed, and measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the sailors and the ship.
The British organization urged all vessels to exercise extreme caution in the areas of ports and waters that have previously been targeted, noting the continued high risk for shipping in this region, especially in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Reuters, citing the maritime security company Ambrey, confirmed the attack on the Dutch-flagged vessel. The owner of the ship and details about the cargo have not been disclosed.
Earlier, representatives of the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack on the Greek bulk carrier Eternity C, which sank in the Red Sea, raising concerns within the international community regarding the increased activity of military actions and attacks on maritime vessels in the region.
