Venture Energy Limited (Venture Energy) has completed the largest green methanol bunkering operation in Hong Kong's history, supplying 1,000 tons of this fuel to a RoRo vessel operated by China Merchants Shenzhen Shipping Company Ltd. (CM Shenzhen).
The operation was conducted using the tug barge Da Qing 268 and involved green methanol produced by Shanghai Shenji Energy & Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenji Energy), which is an affiliate of Shenergy Group. Sinopec (Hong Kong) Limited (Sinopec HK) also participated in the operation, while Venture Energy coordinated the supply to Hong Kong's bunkering market.
This event highlights Venture Energy's ability to connect the growing demand for alternative marine fuels in the Greater Bay Area with diverse sources of green methanol supply from Northern and Eastern China. The company noted that the operation demonstrates the potential for a reliable and scalable supply chain for green marine fuel in the region.
By collaborating with Sinopec HK and other industry partners, Venture Energy ensured the safe and efficient delivery of green methanol, contributing to Hong Kong's development as an international maritime center and a new hub for green fuel bunkering.
Additionally, the successful bunkering operation underscores the Greater Bay Area's potential to create an integrated and competitive low-carbon marine fuel ecosystem encompassing production, logistics, storage, bunkering, and end-use.
Venture Energy stated that it will continue to work with partners across the green fuel value chain to support future bunkering operations and promote low-carbon solutions in the marine sector.
