A fire that broke out on an anchored fishing vessel at the mouth of Thi Nai Lagoon in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, on the morning of June 29, spread to nearby boats, destroying 16 fishing vessels.
The flames quickly engulfed several nearby vessels in the mooring area, with some boats sustaining partial damage while others were completely destroyed down to the waterline.
Emergency services were reportedly dispatched to the scene after authorities were notified and used firefighting equipment to contain the flames. By noon, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to additional vessels.
Local sources report that each destroyed vessel is valued at approximately 1 billion dong (about 38,000 USD).
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
