On September 19, 2025, a unique event took place in Turkey: for the first time, a live movement of vessels was organized across the Bosphorus Strait, symbolizing the Paralympic spirit and the unity of athletes with disabilities. This initiative was part of activities aimed at supporting and promoting Paralympic sports in the country.
Istanbul in 2025 became the center of attention for all lovers of Paralympic sports, hosting the European Youth Paralympic Games, which were held for the first time in Turkey. The games brought together young athletes from over 25 European countries aged 13 to 23, showcasing high sportsmanship and overcoming life challenges.
The movement of vessels across the Bosphorus symbolized the unity and strength of the Paralympic movement, particularly emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities and support for athletes with disabilities. This event strengthened Turkey's image as a country actively developing Paralympic sports, considering its achievements on the international stage — a total of 38 medals have been won by Turkish Paralympians at the Summer Games since 1992.
The Paralympic Games in Istanbul featured sports such as athletics, wheelchair basketball, boccia, goalball, swimming, and others. Turkish athletes also inspired young participants with their achievements and examples, including the country's flag bearers, para-taekwondo athlete Sabir Zeynalov and boccia athlete Fidan Safguliyeva, who are international bronze medalists.
Thus, the initiative of shipping through the Bosphorus became a symbol that the Paralympic movement in Turkey is not only developing but also penetrating public life, uniting people from different countries and cultures around the ideas of equality, courage, and sporting excellence.
