The analytical company Sea-Intelligence presented the reliability ranking of the largest maritime container alliances for the year 2025. The ranking takes into account key indicators: on-time delivery, schedule stability, and operational efficiency, which are critical for freight planning and logistics from the perspective of shipowners and crewing companies.
Leaders in schedule reliability
In April 2025, global schedule reliability reached 58.7%, which is 1.7 percentage points higher than in March and 6.5 percentage points compared to last year — the highest since November 2023. Maersk became the most reliable among the top 13 carriers with a score of 73.4%, followed by Hapag-Lloyd (72.3%) and MSC (60.7%).
Alliance results
In March-April 2025, the Gemini Cooperation alliance led with 90.7% for all arrivals and 87.0% for trade routes. MSC showed 69.8% (all arrivals) and 77.3% (trade). Premier Alliance lagged behind with 53.0% and 51.3% respectively.
- Among outgoing alliances: Ocean Alliance — 51.1%.
- THE Alliance — 49.8%.
- 2M — 33.5%.
Fleet and capacity forecasts
Sea-Intelligence also forecasted fleet developments: by April 2026, MSC will increase its lead over competitors by 1.5 times. ONE increased its capacity by 20% over the year, climbing one position. Most of the top 10 operators will reduce their fleets by scrapping old vessels and lowering charters.
| Carrier | Reliability (April 2025) |
|---|
| Maersk | 73.4% |
| Hapag-Lloyd | 72.3% |
| MSC | 60.7% |
The data highlights the growing importance of reliability in the context of declining freight rates and risks in the Red Sea, where carriers continue to bypass the Suez Canal.
