On April 2, 2025, an important meeting took place between representatives of Azerbaijan and Germany, during which the expansion of cooperation in the field of maritime transport was discussed. These negotiations occurred against the backdrop of strengthening bilateral relations between the countries, covering economy, energy, and transport.
Particular attention was paid to the development of the maritime potential of the Middle Corridor — a key transport route connecting Azerbaijan, Germany, and other European countries. Ways to optimize logistics chains and increase the efficiency of cargo transportation were discussed, which is relevant given the growing demand for sustainable transport infrastructure.
Azerbaijan expressed its desire to expand the role of its maritime sector as an important link in international transport, which is part of a broader strategy for economic diversification and integration into European transport networks. Germany, in turn, is interested in strengthening the partnership, considering Azerbaijan's strategic significance for European energy security and transport.
The visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Azerbaijan in April 2025 was marked by discussions not only on transport issues but also on energy cooperation, including projects in green energy and innovative technologies. The partners emphasized the importance of cultural and educational exchange, which fosters a deeper mutual understanding between the countries.
The parties agreed on further development of joint projects in the maritime sector aimed at increasing competitiveness and safety of transport, as well as strengthening the infrastructure necessary for the implementation of ambitious plans in the South Caucasus and Europe.
